Kingdom Power

The Kingdom of god is not a matter of talk but of power. - 1 Corinthians 4:20

Kingdom Power

I can honestly say – this was a first – never before had I heard those particular words come out of anyone’s mouth.

One of my friends was experiencing a bit of apprehension about purchasing her first home. While in a conversation with a godly “older” woman, she joked about having a fear of commitment. This sweet lady hugged her tight and in her Southern no-nonsense way, declared, “Don’t be a chicken wee-wee! Put an offer on the house!”

This has now become a running joke between us and our ever-expanding circle of friends who have heard the story (currently increasing exponentially with this blog post).

“Don’t be a chicken wee-wee!”

I think I’ve just found my newest inspirational, courageous quote! Although you’ll probably never see this phrase woven into a lovely tapestry or adorning the walls of a Christian bookstore, I think it’s worth considering:

Don’t be paralyzed by the unknown! Don’t be afraid to step out into uncertain waters! Do the next thing! Be bold! Be courageous! Refuse to be held captive by your fears!

Seriously, is there any way you can remain in a fearful, anxious mind-set with the “chicken wee-wee” admonition running through your head?

And the best part … it’s a Biblical principle!

The Kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power. (1 Corinthians 4:20)

In other words: Don’t just sit around talking about God’s power or half-heartedly recounting stories of Biblical miracles without allowing the eternal truth of our Almighty Lord’s Kingdom power to deeply penetrate your mind and heart.

God’s power should radically change lives, not just conversations.

He is able to accomplish immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine through His power at work within us! (Ephesians 3:20)

The same miraculous power that leveled the walls of Jericho, killed a giant with a small stone, parted the Red Sea, turned water into wine, and raised Christ Jesus from the dead is at work on our behalf, right here, right now.

Can you imagine how different our lives would be if we allowed the truth of God’s miraculous power to obliterate “chicken wee-wee” thoughts? What if a deeper knowledge of His immense, incomprehensible power replaced our fears with bold, courageous, stepping-out-on-the-water faith? What if we surrendered the boring, predictable path of what’s known and certain and instead chose the “immeasurably more” path of faith that God has for us?

Can you imagine the adventures we’d experience in the next few months or even the next year if we engaged in each and every challenge God placed in our path with a deep conviction that God is with us and for us in all His power at all times?

Would you pause right now and ask the Lord to give you the courage to trust Him today even in situations where the outcome is uncertain?

May He open our eyes and hearts with fresh demonstrations of His power!
